Have you ever wondered which generation reads the most? Are tech-obsessed Gen Z’s and Millennials actually reading less than Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation?

Best By The Numbers set out to answer this question by creating a great new infographic.

They compared the reading habits of the 5 generations—Gen Z, Millennials, Gen Y, Baby Boomers, and the Silent Generation—using publicly available statistics and studies from the past few years.

The Main Findings

And their findings are a little surprising. It seems that all generations still love to read, although there are some important differences in what and how they’re reading.

Here are the main highlights from the infographic:

• Gen Z has increased their reading more than any other generation since coronavirus struck.
• Millennials read more books than any other generation.
• Physical books still pack a punch, with every generation preferring them over digital ones.
• Gen Z are using social media to find their books, while Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation go to bestseller lists.
• Public libraries are the domain of the Millennials.
• Gen X are pure “news junkies”—reading the most online news daily, compared to all other generations.

The 5 generations all have different expectations and life experiences. However, a love of reading books and online content seem to be common to everyone.
