Dinah Handel promoted to Digital Library Services Manager

Join me in congratulating Dinah Handel on her promotion to Digital Library Services Manager!

Dinah has served as Digitization Services Manager on the Product and Service Management (PSM) team in Digital Library Systems and Services (DLSS) since January 2018. Over the past five years, Dinah has steadily developed into a high-performing member of the team and an active contributor to a number of emerging SUL initiatives. 

As Digital Library Services Manager, Dinah will continue to lead the delivery of digitization services for Stanford Libraries patrons, staff, donors, and other collaborators. In this work Dinah’s skills in project management and service management shine brightly as she works throughout the organization: everything from routine digitization projects and exhibits support to digital course reserves during the COVID-19 lockdown and special outsourced jobs for Virtual Tribunals and the Donald Knuth papers. She will also lead efforts to further articulate and advance the Libraries’ digitization strategy and related programs more broadly. One example of a related effort is the SUL Accessibility Team. Dinah brings her knowledge of archival reformatting and transcription workflows, systems and services (for text and audiovisual content) as well as web accessibility compliance requirements, to support the Accessibility Team’s chartered goals and accessibility guidelines at Stanford.

Dinah has been building on her strong background in archives and technology, combined with her recent involvement in the IMLS-funded Lighting the Way project (link to final report), to guide the freshly revived effort to implement ArcLight at SUL. Analysis for this effort kicked off in 2022 with Dinah convening a cross-organizational team including staff from University Archives, Special Collections Technical Services, the Archive of Recorded Sound, and the Metadata department to investigate and direct how we implement ArcLight for the Libraries broadly, and leverage this opportunity to streamline workflows for publishing archival finding aids and enhancing the researcher’s experience from search and discovery to delivery and access. Dinah is positioned to contribute in highly impactful ways to ArcLight product management and its broader open source community as this product is under continual development and growth now and for years to come.
