Connect with The Signal at the 2020 National Book Festival

By the People at the National Book Festival

Tomorrow, Friday 9/25, marks the beginning of the 20th Library of Congress National Book Festival! Representatives from across the Library will be hosting festival-goers via virtual booths, where visitors can connect with their favorite Library programs and collections. A member of the By the People team will be on hand for question and answer sessions twice during the Festival. Look through the list of events on each day to plan your weekend and visit us in our virtual booth, “Transcribe with the Library”! Come chat with the BtP team during these times:

  • Q&A Session 1: Saturday, 9/26 from 1-5pm EST
  • Q&A Session 2: Sunday 9/27 from 1-4pm EST

On Friday, By the People will also be releasing thousands of new pages for transcription into two of our most popular campaigns: Walt Whitman and Herencia: Centuries of Spanish Legal Documents. Check back on Friday, 9/25, to try your hand at transcribing these new pages!

LC Labs and Citizen DJ at the National Book Festival

Created by Innovator-in-Residence Brian Foo and LC Labs, Citizen DJ is an application that allows anyone with access to a web browser to explore and use thousands of sound samples from the Library. Join us at the National Book Festival for a DJ set with Canadian DJ Kid Koala and beats created by students working with several not-for-profit educational programs around the country, including PATH in Miami, Solidarity Studios in Chicago, and Class Act Detroit. To watch Kid Koala’s “Intercity Beat Tape” and Brian’s discussion with creators and educators using Citizen DJ, check out the teen special or visit the Citizen DJ Booth at the National Book Festival under the “Explore the Library of Congress” tab. Virtual visitors will have the opportunity to create beats using Citizen DJ and ask questions of Brian and Library of Congress staff. We can’t wait to talk to you during our Q&A sessions:

  • Q&A Session 1: 9/25 from 3-5pm EST
  • Q&A Session 2: 9/26 from 2-4pm EST
