Announcing Library of Congress Leadership for the FADGI Still Image Working Group

Today’s guest post is from Hana Beckerle and Spencer Zidarich of the Collections Digitization Division at the Library of Congress.
Hana Beckerle and Spencer Zidarich of the Library’s Collections Digitization Division (CDD) have been named as the Library of Congress co-leads for the Federal Agencies Digital Guidelines Initiative (FADGI) Still Image Working Group, effective July 1, 2025.
Hana and Spencer are both Digital Imaging Specialists in the Digitization Planning and Analysis Section of CDD and have been formally involved with FADGI since 2021 and 2023, respectively. They have contributed to notable projects such as publishing the Technical Guidelines for Digitizing Cultural Heritage Materials, Third Edition, and producing the inaugural FADGI Still Image Video Series.
Spencer entered the field of cultural heritage digitization by photographing artists’ work in Chicago, IL, and has since amassed over a decade of experience in libraries, archives, museums, and the private sector. He brings to the Still Image Working Group expertise in imaging and color science, color management, image quality analysis, and program management. Prior to joining the Library of Congress in 2023, he served as Digital Imaging Manager at the Hoover Institution Library and Archives at Stanford University. Spencer also contributes to standards development as a committee member of ISO TC 42 and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Columbia College Chicago.
Hana began working in cultural heritage digitization at Mullen Libraries at the Catholic University of America while earning her Master’s in Library and Information Science (MSLIS). She came to the Library of Congress as a Librarian in Residence in the Digitization Services Section (now CDD) in June 2021. She has a background in project and program management and library science, in addition to her digitization experience. Hana supported the Still Image Working Group’s review and revision of the Still Image Technical Guidelines in 2022 and 2023 and has served as a liaison to the user community since their publication.

This appointment fills the Still Image Working Group leadership role that has been vacant since the retirement of Tom Rieger, former chief of CDD, in September 2024. Tom was involved with the FADGI Still Image Working Group for many years, including as a primary author and editor of the 2016 and 2023 editions of the FADGI Still Image Technical Guidelines.
CDD Chief Moryma Aydelott named Hana and Spencer as the Library’s FADGI Still Image Working Group co-leads following several months of consideration. In these new roles, Spencer and Hana will provide leadership and direction for the Still Image Working Group, coordinate working group meetings and projects, draw on expertise from other colleagues and partners, represent the Library serving as liaisons on still image digitization issues, and oversee Still Image Working Group communications.
Kate Murray of the Digital Collections Management and Services Division (DCMS) serves as the FADGI Audio Visual Working Group lead. Kate, Hana, and Spencer will coordinate on cross-working group initiatives and jointly manage the FADGI website.
